Hey everyone, Strong start to the week, what a gorgeous morning.  Hope to see you out here flying! Congratulations to Darcy M on passing her Private Checkride on Friday.  She was one of my first students last year, and has pressed through and persevered to achieve her goal.  CFI Dan Prudek prepared her well.  Good job guys! FOUND: Small portable GPS unit, call to describe and claim. Did you know?  I didn’t.  Apparently little things like Land and Hold Short and Line Up and Wait are not legal here at KCOE.  These are examples of “regulation by omission”. It is established that normally only one aircraft is allowed to use a given runway at a time.  This is the rule of the day at uncontrolled airports.  LAHSO and LUAW are ATC overrides to this rule. LAHSO and Line up and Wait are not legal at any uncontrolled airport, as these procedures are specifically described as ATC procedures… therefore ATC tower control is required in order to use them. I have flown, and seen plenty of examples, of landing on a runway and holding short of the crossing runway here at COE.  The jets do this a TON, landing on runway 6, holding short of runway 2 for crossing traffic.  This is not legal. I have flown, and watched, lining up on a runway behind departing traffic with an appropriate radio call.  This is not legal. So what do we do?  Leave the runway to the aircraft arriving or departing… don’t try to share it. If someone is landing on the crossing runway, be reasonable about not attempting to land or...

Hey everyone, Stunning start to this week, my goodness what a blue sky.  Schedule is filling up quick, call us or get on Flight Circle if you want to go! Rental Etiquette.  Easily said, harder to define.  I am seeing some consistent patterns that suggest a little fireside chat might be in order.  I include myself in this, I’m not perfect at all of these items. Wash the windshield.  There is a can of Pledge in each airplane along with a soft microfiber rag for this purpose.  When you come back from a flight, please spray some Pledge on the windshield and wipe all those juicy bugs off using a vertical motion (don’t use circles or horizontal motion, as any scratches will be much more noticeable in flight!).  The next pilot will thank you. Return the interior a little better than you found it.  It’s nice and tidy when seatbelts are buckled loosely across the seats, the seats are all the way back, and any snack wrappers and water bottles have been removed. Leave all the doors unlocked.  Mostly on the 172, the airplane is left parked with all the doors locked.  This is great for security overnight or whenever the airplane will not be supervised for any length of time, but is a constant hassle for ramp personnel during business hours.  When the airplane is to be moved or put away for any reason, we have to walk all the way inside and hunt down the keys so we can unlock the doors and baggage to access the chocks and towbar. Hey all, Soggy start to the week – but what a weekend! There have been instances where a “Clear Prop” from the pilot of an aircraft about to start has gone unnoticed or un-acknowledged by nearby ground personnel.  As Pilot in Command, it is your responsibility to ensure your start will be safe.  Please solicit a response from any persons standing nearby prior to starting.  The most correct response from a nearby person is “Clear!” shouted right back, but any response including a thumbs up or even a wave can constitute acknowledgement of the “Clear Prop”. You folks standing nearby an airplane, when you hear “Clear Prop!”, shout “Clear” right back!  This helps the pilot know you heard them. Short talk this week.  Be safe and have fun!...

Hey folks, The Rusty Pilot Seminar and BBQ was a great success.  We had almost 30 pilots show up for a ground instruction session, and most of them hadn’t flown in some time.  I’m happy to say that everyone enjoyed the presentation and dialogue, and several of the Rusty Pilots are going flying again with us. Be sure to do a good preflight inspection.  Just because the person before you brought the airplane back doesn’t mean something new hasn’t cropped up.  To aid in knowing whether anything is new, I’ve added a Squawk List to the binder for each aircraft.  If you find what you think is a squawk, please check this list.  If you find a new squawk, PLEASE log it so that we can get it fixed! When staging airplanes and pulling them out onto the ramp, please avoid parking them directly behind any jets that may be parked on the ramp.  If you’ll be moving it back in right away, that’s fine, but don’t park within 150 ft behind a jet for any length of time.  They may start up at any time.
