This week at Latitude 6/14

Hey everyone, Quiet week this week.  A big low system is taking it’s sweet time through central Canada… we have it to thank for our weather this week. AOPA sent me a list of cool webinars: Pilot’s guide to ATC Communications Say It Right: Mastering Radio Communications Pinch Hitter course – Not a pilot?  Want to know more about what your pilot does for you and how to do it? Runway Safety Course Before Takeoff Checklist Student Pilot Application Requirements Would anyone be interested in being added to a Safety Pilot Pool?  I get inquiries from new instrument students looking for safety pilots to go with them or tag along with experienced pilots to do instrument approaches.  I envision a way to connect students needing safety pilots or looking to tag along with pilots willing to help and split costs, as needed.  If you are interested, please send me a direct email and I can see what the interest level is. Welcome aboard to Lisa Martin, an experience tailwheel instructor with lots of Champ time.  She’ll be helping out this summer with tailwheel, BFR, and primary instruction. The Champ’s tachometer has died.  Interestingly, it is failing high – it indicates a higher RPM than actual.  A new one will be going in Wednesday or Thursday. The 150 will be down for 100hr until Weds lunch at the earliest, probably ready to go by the end of the day on Wednesday. Regarding reservation etiquette: Please keep an eye on the duration of the reservation. For most primary students, a 2 hour reservation is sufficient for most lessons. For a renter coming...

Hey everyone, Who’s ready for this hot weather?  If you answered yes, you’re a liar – wow is it hot. Did you know?  You can make backup reservations for aircraft and instructors – if the time slot for your aircraft is taken, you can change the type of your reservation to a Backup reservation.  This puts you first in line if the Primary reservation cancels. I’ll ask again: PLEASE help me keep the gate secure next to the hangar.  If you are the last one leaving the Latitude hangar, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO LOCK THE GATE BEHIND YOU. If you forget something, or need access to the building after hours, use the gate at the south end of the parking lot and unlock it with the COE VOR frequency (4 digits). Please double-check your logbook.  If you do NOT have a current TSA endorsement from a Latitude instructor, PLEASE PLEASE bring your logbook, US Passport (or birth certificate AND driver’s license) and tackle a CFI and get their endorsement. Vote for Latitude!  AOPA has begun their annual Flight Training Poll.  Now is your chance to share your flight training experience, and I sincerely hope it’s been a good one.  Follow this link to participate. You’ll now notice an Oil Log in the front of each aircraft book.  Please PLEASE, when you add oil to the airplane, please log Tach time and amount added to this sheet.  Oil consumption is an important metric of overall engine health, and helps us anticipate mechanical problems in some cases. Are you ready?  Ready for the heat?  Here are some tips for effectively...
