The Backcountry Ground School is an 8-hour intensive ground session covering the essential elements of knowledge that set the stage for safe backcountry flying adventures. Pilots signing up for the full Basic Backcountry Ground & Flight course also receive 4 hours of dual instruction the following day.

 

Description

The Backcountry Ground School is an 8-hour intensive ground session covering the essential elements of knowledge that set the stage for safe backcountry flying adventures. Pilots signing up for the full Basic Backcountry Ground & Flight course also receive 4 hours of dual instruction the following day.

Prerequisites:

Basic:

  • 25 hrs make/model (owner flown) or;
  • Latitude Aircraft Checkout (renting or owner-flown)
  • 10 hrs preceeding 30 days
  • Tail-low wheel landing proficiency (conventional gear only)
  • Spot Landing self-practice
  • Read Introduction, Mountain Flying Bible
  • Pilot Performance to Commercial Pilot Standards (CPL not required).
  • Personal and aircraft emergency & survival kits

Required Equipment & Conditions:

  1. Crew consensus on risks of flight using the PAVE checklist
  2. Ceilings not less than 2,000 ft
  3. Winds <20kts at mountain height
  4. Survival Equipment:
    1. Latitude Survival Vest or owner equivalent equipment
    2. Radio
    3. Spot Tracker

  • Latitude Aviation cannot be responsible or liable for aircraft damage, lost time, weather influences, or actions from our staff or instructors.  Students fly in their own aircraft at their own risk, and accept all civil and criminal liability for the flight and ground activities inherent in all flying.
  • Payment IN FULL required upon signup.  Latitude will not reserve spots.
  • No refunds within 30 days prior to class start date.
  • Requests to reschedule a student to a later class will be considered on a space-available, case-by-case basis.
  • No refunds on classes that have started, but for which the student or aircraft was unprepared.
